Remembering Balance
I don’t know about you but I’m noticing a lot of intensity around me at the moment. There seems to be an ever widening gap between people facing extreme personal challenges and experiencing amazing new growth. I don’t like either/or realities. I’m an AND woman. Yet, the dramatic flavor of life seems to just be what is right now.
Amidst the bigness, we are entering Fall Equinox on September 22nd, a time when day and night are equal. In earth based traditions, people gather to recognize the harvest but also sort out what will offer sustenance as winter approaches.
This year fall is offering me an opportunity to remember balance. Whether life brings extreme lows or highs, each moment is an opportunity to remember to breathe, connect with the elements (earth, air, fire, water, spirit) and begin again with eyes and heart open wide. In that process, I learn. Whether outer circumstances line up in a challenging or beautiful way, I can be at peace by practicing balance.
Ah, and here I have found myself once again at AND☺.
So, as you sort through the wheat and the chaff during Fall, what tools can carry you through winter, no matter what?

I am looking forward to Spring Equinox here – tomorrow evening, I’ll be dancing with crown chakra with my students – I wish you could join us.
And I do agree with you – there is increasing intensity around at the moment.
Don’t forget that initiation and awakening move the soul toward new pastures of experience: places we didn’t dare visit, situations we shied away from, inner stirrings we thought we should suppress.
The ability to rise above everyday restrictions of old routines and move upward toward the spacious imaginative mountaintop of new possibilities becomes the new theme in life.
This is the time to break free. Be responsible and do no harm, while simultaneously meeting the void of the unknown with an open heart and wing.
So please tell me my dear friend, what is an AND woman.

Michele-wow, so much in your comment, thank you…I LOVE knowing that we are each honoring the Equinox from where we sit across hemispheres. I will dance with you in the ethers! In fact, I’m holding a Sacred Dance this Friday night, so we’ll send blessings your way then from SF.
Yes, initiation IS an opportunity to awaken and isn’t it so true that often we learn the most when we stretch beyond our comfort zone to explore the unknown.
For me being an AND woman means not getting stuck in dualistic either/or realities. It means trusting that being open, creative, patient, empowered will support finding AND ways of living in the world. My teacher, Jyoti, says that when facing two seemingly discordant points hold them alongside each other until one day, they come together and birth new form that takes us in surprising magical directions.
Like what you said about moving to a “spacious imaginative new mountaintop of new possibilities”…ahh nectar, thank you for that.

I’m so glad that you’ve brought up the strange intensity that has been filling the air as of late. I feel it at work, at home, even in relationships. It seems everything is charged, demanding individual attention. I am hopeful that I can keep everything balanced and that those things that do in fact need attention in my life will get it. I send you balancing wishes, as well in this time of Equinox.
