Sharing the wealth, another dancing Jewel

Have you ever experienced a poem so profound that it satisfied something inside you didn’t know was missing?  That’s how I felt  when Darcy’s Spiritual Blog Reviews  pointed me towards Grace over at The Wild Pomegranate  who gifted my soul with Jewel Mathieson’s  poem We Have Come To Be Danced .    Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I immediately purchased Jewel Mathieson’s book of poetry, This Dance:  A Poultice of Poems, and inhaled it when it arrived yesterday.

As a thank you, here is another Jewel I loved:

This Dance

This is not the bunny hop
This is not the Macarena
This dance is the Gypsy Virgin
come to reclaim her name dance
No Spanish Hokey Pokey here
They’ll be no lines, no steps, no rehearsals or intermission
Check baggage and inhibitions at the door
This is the La Chunga channeled dance
This is the destiny dance
This dance is a prayer
This dance is an exorcism
This is the salvation, the reclamation
the beating out the doormat dance
This is not the he loves me, he loves me not dance
the tip toe through the bullshit dance
This dance is the Karmikaze dance
the hit the floor to bleed, to release
  tear heart scabs open dance
This is the boot stomping, smashing all your eggs
and burning all your bridges dance
This is not the just one more beer, one more pill
and then I’ll really dance dance
This dance is the throwing yourself off the bridge
  between the two worlds dance
The body of light, body of Christ duet dance
The get your red shoes on and get down
get down that yellow brick road dance
This dance is the pantheon goes to Babylon
the give everything away to the community chest
and draw a chance card dance
This is the destiny dance
Este baile
This is the destiny dance

  2. I’m so pleased to see ‘This Dance’ getting some attention. This is the title piece of my collection of love poems to the dance. It is my personal favorite. I wrote it for Gabrielle Roth, my mentor & teacher. It was scheduled to be included in her book ‘Connections’, but was lost in editing. (There is a blank page where it was meant to be.) Thank you for sharing it. ‘This Dance’ can be obtained through my website also.

Wow, I’m honored you stopped by and happy you are pleased to see this posted. Body movement is a sacred spiritual practice of mine and your poetry about dance gives voice to deep feelings. Your poetry is awakening me on many levels. Thank you.

I have just inhaled deeply and completely enjoyed my reading of that. Many thanks for finding and sharing. There’s something about the rythm and the raw, female tone that just dives right down and *stomps* in my heart.

Hope you are well and thanks for the mention!
