Sacred Life Sunday: Choice

new088lg.jpg

Today as I contemplate the sacred, choice is whispering in my ear through an experience.

Recently, I attended the first class my music teacher taught after a sudden unexpected loss.  Well-meaning intentions created an undercurrent of awareness for our teacher’s potential grief.   She wasn’t having any of it.  Instead, just after beginning the class she said, “We all know this is my first day back.  Normally, I’m not one to insist, but today is also the first class after the New Year.  It’s a new day and I’m asking you to celebrate with me.   Let’s bring on the joy!”  Then she said over her shoulder, “Cuz I’ve got some things to work out!”

In class that day I experienced the healing power of joy.   My teacher showed me while I might not be able to change the reality of a loss, I can choose how I hold it.  In witnessing my teacher navigating life’s waters, I learned another way to swim.

Today I am taking that lesson to heart and seeing where it leads.

    Another fine photo folks!

Loss can be a doorway to a level of appreciation one never knew one had. In suffering their is a great honor of what was, if I allow myself the right to view it. In loss I can learn what I missed and what I took for commonness. There is nothing common about our lives. They connect to all that is and that includes the mystery of inspiration, even during the most trying of times.

I might wish to close myself in during such stress, and some moments of self accounting might be in order. But to remember what was of value and how that value is always with us, is a gift sometimes found openned during unexpected pain.
