What’s your intention for 2008?

I’ve been having an email conversation with a mentor friend about a word for the New Year.  For me this word is an intention that helps guide me in 2008.  So many are in the running:  transformation, integration, and actualization top the list.  But the one that most reverberates at this moment is commitment.   So in the spirit of the the passage below, I welcome another level of commitment into my life for 2008.

Until One Is Committed

Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:

that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one that would not otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in ones favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man would have dreamed would come his way.

I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe’s couplets:

“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it! Boldness has genius, magic, and power in it.”

-W.H. Murray from The Scottish Himalayan Expedition and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

(Thank you to Elise’s quotes for clarifying who wrote what).

Beautiful! What a perfect quote to launch the New Year, and what a perfect quote for you–and for all of us. Commitment. The magic meets the steadfastness where the rubber meets the road…I can’t wait to witness all you manifest this year!!
