dark light
Marianne Williamson’s poem took me to a slightly different place. I would like to move away from the competitive duality of light versus dark. For me, darkness is home to the unknown, the place possibility also lives. I don’t think it’s an accident that seeds grow inside dark earth like a baby in a mama’s womb. Light is also essential because it invites awareness. Light nourishes the unknown to help possibility grow.
Growing is not always (or often!) comfortable. It’s normal to find fear or insecurity on the path of possibility. When I encounter fear, I don’t try to liberate myself from it. Instead, I invite it to join me for tea and conversation. When I avoid either deifying or demolishing fear and really listen to it, wisdom often joins us as well.
A dark light realm contains the possibility of balance. A place that both invites the unknown mystery that seeds creation and also simultaneously cultivates expansion. Balance is my intention.
But I still love that poem.
